Tesla Reports Earnings Tonight With 486532 Deliveries But Wall Street Wants One More Thing
TL;DR: Tesla reports Q3 2026 earnings after market close today with 486,532 vehicles already delivered. Consensus calls for $27.87 billion in revenue (6% year-over-year growth) but adjusted EPS is expected to fall 21% to $0.43. The real question is not about deliveries. It's about margins.
I've been watching Tesla earnings calls for a while now, and tonight's is shaping up to be one of the most important ones in years. Not because of the delivery number — that came out weeks ago and it was solid. It's because of what comes after the headline.
486,532 vehicles delivered in Q3. That beat most analyst estimates and shows the demand story is still alive. But deliveries are the easy part. The harder story is what Tesla made on each one of those cars.
What Wall Street Is Actually Watching
Revenue consensus: $27.87 billion, about 6% growth year over year. But adjusted EPS is expected to drop 21% to $0.43. That's a big gap between revenue growth and profit. The culprit? Margins.
Tesla has been cutting prices aggressively to hit volume targets. That works for delivery counts. It doesn't work for gross margin. Every analyst is laser-focused on the automotive gross margin ex-credits number. Below 17% and it's a rough night for the stock.
Three Things That Matter Tonight
First: automotive gross margin. Can Tesla hold above mid-teens without regulatory credits?
Second: Energy. Megapack deployments have been massive, and this segment carries far better margins than the car business. Upside here could offset automotive pressure.
Third: FSD in Europe. Regulatory approval for Full Self-Driving in Europe would unlock massive revenue in a market that already has millions of Tesla vehicles on the road.
The Elon Wildcard
His comments on the earnings call move the stock as much as the numbers do. Confident Cybercab or Optimus update — bulls run. Vague guidance — bears show up.
The Robotaxi launch in Austin earlier this year was a start. But Tesla needs to show this is scaling, not stalling.
My Take Going In
The delivery beat already gave the stock a small pop. Tonight is about whether the business is as healthy as the delivery count suggests. If margins hold and energy keeps growing, Tesla looks like a very different company than two years ago.
If margins disappoint and Elon is vague about the roadmap, this could be a sell-the-news moment. Either way, tonight is going to be interesting.
